Dear Powells,
Happy Sunday. I am pooped. I have socialised 3 nights in a row—almost unheard of for me—and I spent a full day yesterday at a Horror and Sci-Fi Lit Festival. Not my usual genre. I was definitely the only person not wearing black and without kohl ringed eyes. But guest speakers Charlie Higson (The Fast Show, The Enemy YA series) and Robin Ince (The Infinite Monkey Cage) were fascinating, as was panel host Johnny Mains due to his mind-blowing knowledge. I left with a list of books to read that’s so long I’ll be 209 years old before I get to the end of it.
The town where I live has been cock-a-hoop all weekend hosting an arts festival. As I write this, music is blasting across the town from the last event - a gig on a roof. But I am being S.E.N.S.I.B.L.E and staying home to REST because I have a FULL week ahead of me.
Tomorrow I have an exciting meeting at 3pm about my debut book. The day after that it’s recycling and bin day. Then, mid-week, I will be making a special announcement about my debut book at 11am. On the penultimate day of this working week (that’s Thursday, in case you’ve lost count) two things are happening: I will be trotting off to Manchester for the book launch of Oi Dinosaurs AND the second book in the War Tales series I am illustrating for Dermot O’ Leary—Spy Fox and Agent Feathers—hits the shops. It’s a WWII story about a fox spy called Charles, forced to go on a rescue mission with a code-cracking chicken called Agent Feathers. All he has to do is not eat her. Glorious fun to illustrate* and the complete set of drawings is shown here for your viewing pleasure. Back to my busy week… On Friday something is definitely happening, I just can’t remember what. I do know that I also have to write the chapter outline for the next book in my debut series, rough out the interiors for Pride and Prejudice, and artwork the cover and sketch the characters for the next BonBon book. I must also remember to eat healthy things and occasionally have a wee (maybe that’s what’s scheduled for Friday - I’ll check my diary).
Yours, being S.E.N.S.I.B.L.E,
Powell x
